Noypi! Ikaw ba ‘to?

Its 12 midnight last Friday or Monday (if I’m not mistaken) I’m still awake doing rush reviews on my lesson for tomorrow classes (and of course if I’m not on my headset for music, I’m in front of television, just to have sounds around).
Bandila which air 11:30 to 12 have just finished and it’s already NOYPI. Noypi, is a
television program that features different traits and life of Filipinos. It usually makes experiments and observes the Filipino society.
The Noypi on that night focused on “gift giving”. (Not just simple giving of presents)
They talk to a simple school child (girl) to give gifts on our fellow noypi on streets.
And here is some of what happened:
First target, a shoemaker! An old man whose errand is fixing and shining shoes immediately caught the attention of “NOYPI”. The little girl ask him to fix her shoes and while waiting she got a chance to asked the man about his daily earnings as a shoemaker. The man replied with sadness that what he earn is not really enough for his family. His work gave him a life of “isang kahig-isang tuka”.(that’s how hard a life is) A simple gift of Noypi for him! “SHOES” for a shoemaker who does not have even a good pair of slippers. (Its so touching that it really put a smile on the old man’s face. J )
Bottled water for our dear Metro aides… As the child give a bottle of water and asked a lady metro aide how much she earns, tears quickly fell down from her face. As she said, the question reminded her of their hard and tiring days of life.
Food and Sold-out Sampaguita for a Sampaguita vendor. A sampaguita vendor who started selling sampaguita early in the morning and reached 1 PM but haven’t sold any sampaguita L the girl bought all the sampaguita and offered also lunch to the vendor. The lady vendor even exclaimed that she found the girl a mysterious one, buying all her sampaguita can help a lot to surely pass the days need.
NOYPI also talked to an old lady to give their simple gifts. And here are some of the scenes;
The camera spot an old man pushing a cart under a heavy rain and this became the first target. This man is one of those who buy bottles, newspaper and material which can be recycled. As the old lady approached the old man; “ Kapatid sandali lang napansin ko na kelangan na ngh kapalit ng tsinelas mo” giving the pair of slippers to the man. The old man’s face suddenly shines on surprised as he received the gift. (I remember a TV documentation like this, that man whose errands like this really can’t afford buying slippers for themselves, slippers are precious and expensive on their state of living.)
Pandesal for newspaper man early on the morning. The old lady next targets are those are already on the streets selling newspaper, early in the morning. The old lady spotted a newspaper man and offered some pandesal which he thankfully received; I thought he would keep it for himself, but after the old lady left he didn’t even get a piece but offered the bread to the people sleeping on streets nearby him… J
Next… At the middle of rain is an old lady selling vegetables on cart in the streets. The NOYPI’s old lady approached this vendor and buys some of her goods and handed a big amount of bill. The lady exclaimed “Ma’am wala po akong barya ditto”. The buyer of course, didn’t ask for a change anymore as a simple gift to the old lady.
These are only few of the scenes on NOYPI! It’s very inspiring and I feel really thankful and proud to people who have good hearts like them.
Every time I see people walking and selling different good on the streets, metro aides who stand the heat of the sun and old jeepney drivers who always face the heat of metro, I really feel pity for them but still proud, for they work hard on a decent job. (“May God bless them”.)
For this Christmas, the essence and sharing and giving love may still be alive on each one of us, and not only on Christmas but on the whole year-round..
Ikaw, Noypi, Ikaw ba toh??
Happy Christmas!!
